Stuff to DO July 4 WeekendThomas the Tank Engine ride? Sunflower Maze and Blueberry Picking or Magic in Bryant park? There are some great things to do this weekend July 6th-8th.

Friday-Sunday July 6th-8th If you haven’t already heard- The Jersey State Fair (Rutherford, NJ 12:00 PM -10:00 PM) is in town at the Meadowlands, offering all the delights of an enormous summer fair including rides, a midway and loads of events and attractions!

Friday-Sunday July 6th-8th All aboard for  a day out with Thomas the Tank Engine (Phillipsburg, NJ 10:00 AM-5:00 PM) • A 25-minute (approximate) ride with a talking Thomas the Tank Engine • A Meet & Greet with Sir Topham Hatt, Controller of the Railway • A Thomas & Friends Imagination Station featuring a variety of activities • A ‘Passport to Adventures’ booklet for children to track their journey at the event and receive a special prize upon completion. • Thomas & Friends-themed activities including crafts, photo ops, and more • Storytelling, video viewing and live music $21 per adult and child

Friday-Sunday July 6th-8th Head over to Alstede Farms (Chester, NJ 9:00 AM-6:00 PM) for their Blueberry Festival and Sunflower Maze. Bring the Family and enjoy delicious blueberry treats, scenic hayrides to the Blueberry Patch for Pick your own blueberries, as well as pony rides, tractor train rides, and hay wagon rides.

Friday-Sunday July 6th-8th Liberty Science Center’s latest show is Gross! Grossology that is. (Jersey City, NJ 10:00-5:00)  Kids love gross stuff and this humorous exhibition answers all their questions (so you don’t have to). Whether it’s what’s to be found up their noses or what happens to the food they eat, Grossology teaches about the human body with lots of laughs. Kids can even play a huge oversized “Operation” game. (FREE admission Saturday and Sunday this weekend with Bank of America Card)

Friday-Sunday July 6th-8th Take in a play with “Year with Frog and Toad” at the Summit Play House   (Summit, NJ 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM) Based on Arnold Lobel’s well-loved books, and a Broadway hit with three Tony Award nominations, this whimsical musical follows two great friends — the cheerful Frog and the rather grumpy Toad — and their forest friends through four fun-filled seasons. A Year with Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures, and celebrates the differences that make everyone unique and special.

Saturday and Sunday July 7 + 8 Get up close to the aircraft in the USS Intrepid’s collection (NYC 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM) to learn how symbols and paint schemes set each airplane apart. Then head back to the classroom to create a family squadron insignia and decorate an airplane. Free with Museum admission. Space is limited. Register in advance. (FREE admission this weekend with Bank of America Card)

Saturday July 7th One World Observatory (Financial District NYC  10:00 AM-2:00 PM) invites you to have a day filled with family fun 100 stories above New York City. Family Fun Day will offer complimentary face painting, airbrush tattoos, and custom balloon animals. Enjoy a personalized caricature sketch of you and your family to take home! In addition to these fun activities, children will take a ride in their astounding sky pods to travel to the highest point of New York. Saturday July 7th  Visit Lord Stirling Stables for “Pony Pals” (Basking Ridge, NJ 11:00 AM-12:00 PM) a program for children and their parents designed to introduce children to ponies. The stables are located at 256 South Maple Avenue and is for 2 to 4 year olds. The event \features a pony-themed story and a lead line pony ride. Fee is $10 per child/parent pair and $5 for each additional sibling age 2-9 years. Pre-registration online is required.

Saturday July 7th  Discovery Saturday at The Reeves Reed Arboretum (Summit, NJ 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM) Make a discovery at the Arboretum and enjoy a unique family experience. Drop by the Stackhouse Education Center on Saturdays, any time between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, for an interactive exploration of nature. Each week discover a new plant, animal or environmental topic through experiments, stories, games, and crafts. Borrow an Arboretum backpack loaded with binoculars, field guides, a magnifying glass and everything else needed for outdoor Arboretum adventure! No pre-registration is necessary. Adults must be accompanied by a child! Free for RRA members. $5.00 per child for non-members*

Sunday July 8th Le Carrousel at Bryant Park (NYC Midtown 7:00 am-11:00 AM)  is not only a great place to take the kids for a ride, but the serene, inviting grounds beckon visitors to stay for a fun magic show. Who could possibly resist? Youngsters won’t believe their eyes after an afternoon of see-it-to-believe-it tricks. Ta-da! FREE

Sunday July 8th  Summer time is Festival time! Fanwood Summer Fan Jam  (Fanwood NJ 11:00 AM-7:00 PM) is a Rockin’ Music Festival, Food Truck Event and Car Show\ Appropriate for all ages and located in LaGrande Park. Bring blankets and lawn chairs and spend the day! Kid zone offers rides with purchase of Kid zone tickets. Beer & Wine Garden for Adults 21 & over with proof of age.
