The Hartshorn Family Easter and Spring Break 2010

If you’ve never been to St Micheals and Oxford, MD plug it into the GPS for your next romantic getaway. Mac and I dropped the girls at their grandparents and stayed at The Inn at Perry Cabin This charming hotel overlooks the Chesapeake Bay, they have a small Spa and complimentary bikes to ride around the quaint town. After all that excercise and pampering we enjoyed an afternoon sitting by the water watching the sailboats go by, being served food and cocktails as the sun went down!

Mac’s parents live in Maryland so we make the three hour trip a few times a year. Easter weekend is our favorite time as spring is always earlier than New York. This year spring had really kicked in with bulbs, blossoms and magnolias putting on a divine display. I have included an image of my girls in their Easter Hats (just in case you thought I was kidding) with our traditional Easter cake with was actually edible this year! I found a fabulously easy recipe for the sponge cake.

Our girls had their Spring Break last week and the highlight of our week was a short hike with friends in the Palisades Interstate Park. It was very exciting treking through the woods, though sadly many huge trees were down. The kids loved the steep stone paths along the edge of the Hudson and were super exicted to find to a waterfall and quaint little beach with a couple of rope swings. After a riverside picnic lunch we had trouble convincing them to leave. They made dams, collected “sea glass” and were nicely worn out by the time we returned! I highly recommend the area, you can visit the website for detailed information about each walk http://www.njpalisades.org/ There is also a great lookout on the state line to view Turkey Vultures, Eagles and many other birds as they soar on the thermals created along the steep stone cliffs.
