We were thrilled to have this family return to our Hoboken studio for a pregnancy portrait.
Having previously shot with Mac at a beach location in The Hamptons, this lovely family returned to celebrate the upcoming arrival of a baby sister!

When to have professional photographs taken of your child

We are often asked for advice about what age to photograph a child. They do say that timing is everything… so here are some key ages to consider.

Pregnancy

If you are interested in a pregnancy portrait, wait till you are about 8 months especially if it’s your first child. With a second pregnancy, mothers tend to get larger faster and can come in a little earlier in their pregnancy. Include your other child/children so they can be involved in the photo shoot as this makes for some powerful images.

Newborn

Babies are still sleepy for the first week and this is the perfect time to photograph them. At our studio we have a few tricks to get those amazing and sometime humorous shots. If you cannot make it to our studio at that time, wait until they are at least 4 months.

8 — 10 months old

I just love this age! They are chunky and alert, can sit up, smile and really interact with their parents. This makes for some great shots with mum and dad. Strip that baby down and capture those delicious rolls of fat on their perfect little bodies!

2 — 3 years old

Children at this age are full of life, opinions and have very little inhibition. This is where their wonderful enthusiasm for life can be captured…. along with those tears!

6 years old

Quick…teeth are getting loose! Record those milky whites in a portrait before they are replaced by adult nashers.

9 — 10 years old

Once the topic of braces comes up it’s time get into a portrait studio. Most parents don’t want to record those braces so it’s a call to action!

18 — 20 years old

It may seem far in the future, but it will soon be here. Capture those beautiful teenagers before they flee the coup.
