We have had the pleasure of photographing these beautiful sisters many times during their childhood.
They were back in our Hoboken Studio after experiencing location shoots both at the beach and in the park.
No matter where Mac shoots them, they make great subjects!

Our hallways are being painted and the floors redone.
Future plans include a huge new lobby, new elevators and many other vendors for the ground floor shop fronts.
My Gym has moved to the building and is very successful.

This year,  the girls and I decided to enter the competition and cooked up Jamie Oliver’s Chili con Carne.

It turned our to be the perfect night for such an event with the light snow that day.
Mac had to carry the huge pot to the event and we made 3rd place which was a pleasant surprise for us all!

I thought we should share Jamie’s ‘award winning’ recipe.

Chili Con Carne

Serves 6 people

•  2 medium onions
• 2 cloves of garli
• 2 medium carrots
• 2 sticks of celery
• 2 red peppers
• olive oil
• 1 heaped teaspoon chili powder
• 1 heaped teaspoon ground cumin
• 1 heaped teaspoon ground cinnamon
• sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
• 1  tin of chickpea
• 1 tin of red kidney beans
• 2 tins of chopped tomatoes
• 1lb ground beef
• 1 small bunch of fresh cilantro
• 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

To make your chili

• Peel and finely chop the onions, garlic, carrots and celery
• Halve the red peppers, remove the stalks and seeds and roughly chop
• Place your largest casserole-type pan on a medium high heat
• Add 2 lugs of olive oil and all your chopped vegetables
• Add the chili powder, cumin and cinnamon with a good pinch of salt and pepper
• Stir every 30 seconds for around 7 minutes until softened and lightly colored
• Add the drained chickpeas, drained kidney beans and the tinned tomatoes
• Add the minced beef, breaking any larger chunks up with a wooden spoon
• Fill one of the empty tomato tins with water and pour this into the pan
• Pick the cilantro leaves and place them in the fridge
• Finely chop the washed stalks and stir in
• Add the balsamic vinegar and season with a good pinch of salt and pepper
• Bring to the boil and turn the heat down to a simmer with a lid slightly askew for about an hour, stirring every now and again to stop it catching

To serve your chili

This is fantastic served with fluffy rice, sour cream, guacamole and a wedge of lime and sprinkled with cilantro leaves

The convention is a gathering for education, inspiration and to discover new products. We enjoyed sharing ideas with other professionals and have come back excited about a new year at Hartshorn Portraiture.

The weather was beautiful and a lovely change from the cold weather of New Jersey. We made time to try local food, do a little celebrity spotting and enjoyed a night of great jazz.

The trip was only slightly marred by a phone call from our daughter Cameron. She informed that at her weekly swimming lesson she had been locked in a bathroom for over an hour! Apparently she kept calm, notes were passed back and forth and eventually the fire department was called to break the door down! Why does it always happen when you are out of town?

There is always room for improvement in any business and ours is not exception. We will continue to fine-tune our service on every level and plan to launch a few new products later this year.

Our building, The Monroe Center for the Arts, has a new owner and things are shaping up here. At the Hoboken Artist Studio Tour our newly decorated lobby made its debut. Mac, along with two other photographers shot all the artists in the building in their studio and the images displayed are pretty cool.

Francesco, owner of Films by Francesco , has a studio next door to us and is an extremely talented videographer. He created a film featuring all the artists, capturing their personalities on a short film that is running in the lobby. Stop by to take a look.

Join us this Autumn in Central Park for a magical family portrait session.

Simple and comfortable dresses for the girls and shorts and t-shirts for the boys in earthy colors work with any home décor and are safe. But, if you want to branch out into something more colorful, I suggest taking one piece of clothing with a pattern -  like a girl’s dress — throw it on the bed and then pull clothing for the rest of the family using that color palette as a guide.

Remember to consider the colors theme in your home when you start playing with colors, but above all have fun and get creative.

These clothes were selected from two lines, Ella Moss for the girls and City Threads for the boys. Our good friends at Suki’s in Millburn carry these lines and can special order sizes if they are not in stock.

The mother said she was considering swimsuits for the younger girls as they would be comfortable that way and as you can see from the photographs  she was right! The girls look so cute racing across the Jersey Shore — not a care in the world.
