Fall is the perfect time for a trip into the country and the Pocantico hills are the perfect location of the justly famous restaurant and working farm Blue Hill at Stone Barns.

The Fall festival each October was made famous when Martha Stewart judged the pie competition in 2005 & 6. Now this rural festival is firmly on the must go map! Though you need to book early for this one day event, tickets sell out a month before the date so look out for the online tickets at the beginning of September.

Parking is plentiful in surrounding fields so bundle up the kids and stroll amoungst grazing sheep and cattle, wander through greenhouses growing herbs and veggies for the restaurant kitchen. No need to tell the kids that the cute ducks, geese and chooks end up in the pot too ’cause they look so contented in their rustic surroundings. There is farmyard theatre, hayrides and ‘too die for’ BBQ sandwishes’ along with local produce and stunning coffee and fresh baked goodies too warm you up if its still chilly out.

Stroll the grounds, browse in the quaint store or take in the pie cook off prizegiving. Whatever you choose to do its a wonderful way to get the family a little closer to nature.

Check out their website all year round for kids events.
